M house

This house is located the suburbs of Tokyo. The site is 10m by 50m. This unique form comes from the division of rice fields. On this site I designed the house for my parents. As they get older, they like to stay home longer hours. So I wanted to spice up their life at home. Even if they don’t go out, they can feel 4 seasons changing. Looking out the windows, they can see trees are growing, flowers are blooming, birds are singing. The house has 4 gardens. Each garden has different character. I planted different kind of flowers or trees at each garden so that they can enjoy 4 kinds of views. By changing the height of the ceiling, every rooms has different roles. I didn’t cut into pieces. I only used 1 roof. It’s like river flowing down. For example most highest room is living room, most lowest room is study room.
